December 5 in Bakersfield

Town & Country Village Tree Lighting 11/29

Welcome to your weekly Bakersfield update! Today is Thursday, December 5, 2024.

In this week’s Bako Weekly:

  • 🎄 Christmas events

  • 🚨 Convict on the run

  • 🥑 A Mexican restaurant

I almost skipped this week’s post since there aren’t too many events happening this weekend. I was planning to take a little break but decided to share the info I do have—it’s short and sweet, but I hope you’ll still find it helpful!

Here’s what’s happening this week:

News

🚨 A manhunt for 34-year-old Cesar Hernandez, a convicted murderer who escaped custody, has entered its third day, causing significant disruptions in Delano. Hernandez fled from a corrections van at the Kern County Superior Courthouse, prompting school closures and postponed holiday events. Personally, I don’t think he’s still in Delano, but the search continues.

📋 Kern County is recruiting volunteers to serve on the Grand Jury for a one-year term. This important role involves investigating county entities, addressing citizen complaints, and evaluating road conditions and more, with recommendations often considered by the Board of Supervisors. Applications are now open—apply online!
